From
the time it was founded in 1938 by King Taejo during
Chosun Dynasty, Sungkyunkwan became the sole national
academy of higher education in Korea until the beginning
of the 20th century Sungkyunkwan has produced many
pronounced scholars who have played a pivotal role
in the advancement of Korean philosophy, arts
and sciences. Classrooms, dormitories and other traditional
Korean style structures, well preserved and designated
as national treasure, are still located on the Humanities
and Social Sciences Campus in uptown Seoul. |
